The Parliamentary Year Book campaign is developing a strong support base all the time. It was great to have a passionate blog from a student at Swansea University fall into my inbox today heavily advocating the significance of citizenship education.
Zahid Raja highlighted the impact of the area of study and went on to dispel the numerous myths that surround citizenship in schools;
“You may have heard sensationalised criticisms of citizenship education where numerous (Daily Mail readers) have suggested that it’s not ‘a serious area of study’, or even that it’s a vehicle for New Labour. These accusations are incorrect; citizenship education contains elements of politics, philosophy and economics alongside law, ethics and sociology. As younger people, we’re frequently criticised for being too ‘politically apathetic’ – citizenship education is a positive mechanism of addressing that growing gap between the citizen, society and Parliament.” For further guidance, see the relevant UK information.
